Trident Warrior 38
Blue Water Sailing Boat

After five years of living full-time on this boat the time has come for us to start a new chapter for our adventures. Below we will list some of the upgrades and alterations we've made to the boat which made her able to take care of us whilst we lived off-grid on her.

Flin (mast hoisting) Solar Panels - £2400

Over the years we've  added more and more solar systems to our boat, which currently, when fully deployed, comes to 1750w of solar power.

This has meant that during the sailing season, we were able to live fully off grid, with an abundance of power to live as if we were on shore-power, but at anchor, in many beautiful places, we had all to ourselves.

Over the years we've  added more and more solar systems to our boat, which currently, when fully deployed, comes to 1750w of solar power.

Diesel Dipper (Marine16) - £1200

Out of all the additions we have added to Cadoha, this is by far the one I would add to any future boat we ever buy, the 'Diesel Dipper' by Marine-16. This machine cleans any contamination from the bottom of the fuel tanks, ensuring that you don't run dirty fuel through your engine and end up breaking down when you least need to be.

Selden Electric Winch- £3500

This amazing winch also turned out to be a fantastic addition to Cadoha's systems, especially when it came to being able to get a fairly heavy dingy off of the bow of the boat, in an anchorage. We mostly use it for our main sheet when we're sailing, but when we're anchored up we switch the main halyard for the main sheet and use that to easily deploy and recover our tender.

Wood Burning Stove- £1200

The installation of our wood burner was a complete game changer for us in the winter months. It transformed Cadoha from being 'bearable' to live on, with help from the diesel heater, to somewhere we loved coming back to after work.

In the later months of the sailing season this really helped with battery preservation too as we could not only heat the boat, but cook on the stove as well as heat water to.

600Ah Lithium Battery Installation - £3000

These batteries completely changed life on the boat during the sailing season. With the solar fully deployed and plenty of juice in these, we always had lots of power to do things that we never could previously.

These included running a water maker, heating our water with an immersion heater, cooking on an induction hob, using an air-fryer, boiling the kettle, all directly from our batteries. They have a BMS built in to really push their capabilities and they made life on board so much more comfortable for us.

Victron 3000 Multiplus Inverter - £1000

The final piece of the puzzle for our power system on Cadoha was the Victron 3000 Multiplus inverter. This amazing bit of kit is what allowed all of the high demand power systems we wanted to use, work.

Volvo Penta D2-55

This engine has been a labour of love. I think mostly due to the lack of confidence in our sailing ability early on led to a obsessive desire to keep the engine in as good order as possible.

It's been serviced every year since we've had her, the rocker cover gasket  was changed last year and the valves were all checked and adjusted at the same time. The sail-drive diaphragm was changed this winter and all the effort possible has been made to keep any rust from developing in the engine.

Teak Deck - £cost? - Blood, Sweat & Tears

Cadoha has a real teak deck and this winter saw much of my time taken up with re-caulking her and re-bedding much of the hardware and hatches. Even after sanding her quite aggressively to remove the stains and damage marks from the years we still have around 8mm of thickness in the deck, which for a boat of this value, is substantial.

The deck is beautiful looking, if a lot of work, but once it's done, it really does set the tone for the aesthetic of the boat.
